Many companies have switched gears to make products that help protect those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nike began making full-face shields from elements of their footwear and apparel, wineries and distillers are making hand sanitizer and multi-purpose cleaners, clothing companies like Gucci and Burberry are making face masks and gowns, and Ford, GE and 3M partnered to make ventilators. Sherwin-Williams has joined the efforts to provide essential products to health care workers and combat the shortages.
Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Sherwin-Williams has been making significant donations locally and nationally. The company contributed to the COVID-19 Community Response Campaign launched by the Cleveland Clinic by donating 50,000 gloves and 10,000 N95 masks.
Neighboring states have also benefited from Sherwin-Williams’ donations and generosity. Indiana received 5,000 N95 masks and 1,500 gloves, which were distributed by the Indiana National Guard and other state agencies. “We are grateful for Sherwin-Williams’ generous donations, which will assist our health care workers as they continue to courageously fight the coronavirus pandemic,” Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill said. “We encourage other entities who are able to donate these valuable resources to do so. Impactful contributions like this bolster our state’s ability to limit the spread of this virus and treat those who are infected.”
In Pennsylvania, the Attorney General Josh Shapiro partnered with Sherwin-Williams to donate 7,000 N95 masks and 2,500 pairs of gloves to three different hospitals. “Health care workers on the frontline of this pandemic need more protection and anyone who can step up should be saluted,” Shapiro said in a release. “I want to thank Sherwin-Williams for donating N95 masks and gloves to the brave women and men at Einstein and Lankenau Hospitals who are sacrificing for all of us. We will beat this crisis together, and I call on all Pennyslvanians to do their part.”
To date, Sherwin-Williams has donated 250,000 masks, gloves and lab coats to health care workers. And they continue to find more ways to give back. “We are also beginning to manufacture hand sanitizer at some of our plants, and will be donating it to those in need,” Sherwin-Williams officials said in a statement to 3News. The company is also delivering “critical coatings products to producers of ventilators, oxygen tanks and hospital bed frames.”
“Sherwin-Williams salutes the heroic efforts of the first responders who are always there for us, especially now,” said Mary Garceau, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Sherwin-Williams in her interview with WBIW. “We’re pleased to donate protective masks and gloves...at this critical time, and we’re proud of our employees, who every day make it possible for Sherwin-Williams to continue supporting communities across the country.”
Front line workers are able to stay protected and healthy because of these generous donations. Sherwin-Williams has made it a point to meet the demand for essential products such as hand sanitizer, masks, and coatings for vital medical equipment. Their continued contributions are making a difference nationwide.
