Recurring Roofing Road Trips guest Darci Kunard with Franklin International/Titebond joins the podcast once more for a conversation on sealants and caulking.
In her eleven years in the sealant industry as an expert, Darci says she is observing increasing demand for PVC Trim in response to supply chain issues and material shortages. “A couple years ago we saw a massive spike in the price of lumber and that really was a springboard for the increase in demand for PVC trim. And this is for all types of applications,” says Darci. “But what we're really seeing is that it used to be a real high-end product [wood] where people knew that they weren't going to have to stain it, sand it down, seal it again, all of the work that comes with lumber, etcetera, etcetera. With PVC trim you don't need that and it's super easy to paint.”
Titebond PVC Trim Adhesive and Sealant and the company’s PVC Trim Joint Adhesive are additionally gaining in popularity due to their weatherability, performance and labor-saving qualities.
Titebond PVC Trim Adhesive and Sealant is an all-in-one formulation that eliminates the need for two separate products on the job site, allowing the same product that adheres trim to the sub-fascia to be used to seal crown molding. “We heard a lot of people saying, ‘Which of your construction adhesives can we use for this?’ Then, ‘Which sealant do we need?’ And so a little light bulb went off in our product manager's head that said, ‘Why don't we have one product that does both?’” says Darci. “Both helps to adhere the PVC trim and seal it because if you get water or any type of intrusion behind that PVC trim, you're going to have problems. So, you need that one, two punch product.”
Titebond PVC Trim Joint Adhesive is a solvent-free formulation designed to bond immediately, forming a complete joint that can be worked with in under 60 seconds. “We saw a need for the ability to quickly adhere miter joints. You can't use a fastener there. You don't really have the time to let an adhesive cure in between those two pieces," says Darci. “So, this is a very quick [process], you put it together and within 60 seconds, it’s bonded and you don't need that much of it. So, it's just a great add-on product.” This product gives contractors the speed and strength they need on a project.
