When Heath Hicks and Eric Mackintosh were working at AVCO Roofing in Tyler, Texas, they realized that their quality roofing work was being overshadowed by damaged gardens and nails in lawnmowers that were left over from the job site. They spent thousands of dollars trying to find a way to solve this issue, from nail magnets to metal detectors to simply more feet on the ground and eyes on the site. But none of those efforts achieved their goal of leaving a professional, clean job site for happy homeowners. And so, the duo decided they were going to make their own solution if they could not find one. In 2018, they launched The Catch-All, a job site protection system that keeps nails and other debris from ever hitting the ground and is a proven organic marketing lead generator
That was six years ago, and The Catch-All has now established itself as a known innovative and effective solution for a clean job site across the industry. While at the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas’ 2024 trade show, The Coffee Shops crew had the chance to catch up with Heath and see what they have been up to recently! The Catch-All might have started as a single, net product, but they now offer a suite of products including their Shrub Shield, Gutter Protection and Nail Catch. Heath shared a bit about the success of these additions, saying, “Lots of people are buying these. The Nail Catch especially. It’s a little filter that you put on your downspout that catches the nails and trash that come down during the installation, and after, especially after that first good rain.”
They are also constantly working to keep innovating and developing better products. Heath shared that one thing that has been in the works is a tool designed specifically to protect AC units. He explained, “Some roofers might not feel like they need the full Catch-All system, but when we get down to the AC unit, every roofer in every market always knows how expensive those are to replace if they get damaged. And so, we are coming up with a really good tool to be able to do that, that'll be inexpensive and reusable.” This product, the AC Shield, is similar to the existing Shrub Shield in that it is small, compact and packable. While not available for purchase yet, The Catch All plans to have a sneak peek of this new innovation at this year’s International Roofing Expo (February 19-21, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas)!
