Learn how the Hyatt Regency in Salt Lake City used insulated metal panels to improve efficiency and integration.

In the center of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, towers the Hyatt Regency. On its many different floors (26 to be precise), this hotel has everything from meeting space and ballrooms to dining venues, bars and rooftop terrace. Each guest room (of which there are 700), features stunning windows that showcase the downtown city skyline. And the benefits aren’t just within the walls of this hotel. The Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City adjoins the Salt Palace Convention Center and is within walking distance to iconic city attractions such as Main Street, Temple Square, Capitol Theatre, City Creek Center and Vivint Arena.

So, when the hotel developers started looking into updating the structure, they knew they needed a fast-paced construction schedule that would allow them to keep up with the demand for stays at the hotel. When looking for a material that balanced high-performance with a simple, fast installation and also would seamlessly integrate into the existing glass curtainwall design that gave each room such incredible views, they found CENTRIA insulated metal panels (IMPs). According the Metal Construction Association (MCA), IMPs are known for being “an attractive, energy-efficient and cost-effective way to deliver a turnkey building enclosure with a vapor and water barrier and continuous insulation.”

The CENTRIA IMPs were a great external cladding solution for the Hyatt Regency because of these factors as well as their ability to keep up with the speed of the anticipated build and the circumstances presented by the urban location. One of CENTRIA's district sales managers, Steven Huck, explained, “There was a lot less lay down area for materials on the jobsite, so using products that could be delivered on time and installed quickly was pivotal.”

Crews installed CENTRIA’s FORMAWALL DIMENSION SERIES in Silversmith on the exterior of the hotel. Formawall allows for design freedom without compromising thermal performance. The building envelope system consolidates six wall components into one, ultimately reducing waste and simplifying installation. In addition, Formawall panels were able to integrate seamlessly with the glass curtainwall to deliver a modern, sophisticated look for the center-city setting with a front-row seat to Salt Lake City’s skyline.

“Choosing CENTRIA had a lot to do with the panel’s ability to integrate seamlessly with the glass curtainwall,” said Steven. “Given the height of the building, we were able to cut back on labor resources by only having to go around the building one time, with one product.”

Where the convention center hotel attached to the main building, designers chose selected CENTRIA’s VERSAWALL V panels in Silversmith for installation. Versawall delivers the industry’s best combination of aesthetics, performance, sustainability and value. A lightweight wall panel system, Versawall V provides flexibility with long lengths, various finish options and can be vertically installed to add visual appeal.
