By Evelyn Witterholt, RCS Reporter.

Knowledge of how portable rollforming machines work is crucial to your roofing business and training is the first step to understanding them.

Using portable rollforming machines in your roofing business is very beneficial, but you don’t want to use them without any knowledge of proper usage. If you don’t know that much about how to use these machines, you should consider a training session from New Tech Machinery (NTM).

NTM offers training sessions for each of their portable rollforming machines so that you can understand the proper usage and maintenance of their machines. If you’re still unsure about what exactly a training session entails or why you need it, we’ve got you covered! We’ll cover everything you need to know about these training sessions, including costs, who needs training, what to expect in the training itself and more.

Why you should get a training session

When you get your new portable rollforming machine, but you have never used one before or you haven’t used the NTM model, you do not want to go in blind. Understanding exactly how to operate the machine is crucial to your safety. You could also hurt the condition of the product you’re feeding into the machine if you aren’t using it correctly. This is why an NTM training session is not only important, but highly recommended!

What are the benefits of a training session

NTM’s machine training department wants all users to understand how to best operate their portable rollforming machines. Their trained service technicians will guide you in the following areas:

  • Operating the machine

  • Troubleshooting issues

  • Safety practices and avoiding injuries

  • Understanding the rollforming process

  • Types of materials

  • Different parts of the machine and what they do

  • Productivity when using the machine

Who needs a training session?

Although training is not required for most NTM machines, the company still strongly encourages it, particularly for those new to the industry or using the equipment. They also recommend supervisors or employees supporting the operator to take the training so they can familiarize themselves with the equipment.

Even though training is not required for most of their machines, NTM does require notching system training on their SSQ II™ MultiPro Roof Panel Machines. This is because this feature is different from what many of their other machines have.

How to prepare for a training session

Once you’ve scheduled a training session with NTM, they ask that you make necessary preparations for the day of the session. They recommend you set up a spot indoors to perform the training and you have a good power source to run the machine. Here are the supplies you’ll need for the session:

  • An NTM portable rollforming machine

  • Protective equipment

  • Machine manual

  • Tools such as wrenches, allen set/keys and tin snips

  • Metal coil

  • Machinery to load coil such as a forklift or overhead crane

How much does it all cost?

For any recently purchased NTM portable rollformer, the initial training session in Denver, Colorado is free! NTM can also come to your site and conduct the training session there. However, you will have to pay for the travel expenses and service rate for their rollforming specialists.

How to sign up for a training session

If you’ve decided to go for it and get an NTM training session, scheduling is just a phone call or email away. Visit their contact page for more information on how to schedule a training session.
