Polycoat Lax's Legacy

General Coatings Polycoat Products
November 16, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby.

The history of Polycoat is the story of Laxmi “Lax” C. Gupta’s passion for polymer chemistry and his core values. Read on to learn how great chemistry, great manufacturing, great people and great relationships have built Polycoat Products and its other companies to where they are today.

In the early 1980’s the founder of Polycoat Products and a London-educated polymer physicist Laxmi “Lax” C. Gupta was working in a manufacturing company refining his polymer skills. After several years, Lax began his entrepreneurial dream when he founded American Polymers Corporation, a California Corporation, and acquired Polycoat Products in December 1984.

The legacy of Lax is Polycoat Products and the divisions that have been acquired over the years. Polycoat has grown organically by expanding chemical expertise from polyurethanes as well as carefully planned acquisitions this has allowed them to grow both in technology and geography. As product lines expanded, Polycoat continued to grow and succeeded in expansion out of California. However, it was Lax’s vision for Polycoat products that made the company a leading manufacturer of polyurea, polyurethane coatings, and elastomers.

“Over the course of nearly 40 years, we have grown both in technology and manufacturing facilities,” COO of Polycoat Ashish Dhuldhoya says in a video. “It has been amazing seeing this company grow. Lax has grown the company from one building here in Los Angeles to seven facilities all over the country with state-of-the-art manufacturing.”

Lax’s hard work, his ethics and relationships have driven the success of Polycoat. His goals, and by extension Polycoat’s, are simple: to improve the industry by providing quality chemistry and modern manufacturing which in turn improves the market sectors their products are a part of.

Lax’s legacy and core principles guide Polycoat as a multigenerational family-owned business, ingraining the company culture with a passion for creating a high-performing product and a company culture built around being one big family.

Polycoat is dedicated to working hard to promote growth and prosperity and strengthen the future of the business. Polycoat’s customers are an integral part of Lax’s legacy as they depend on his business to manufacture quality products so that everyone can thrive.

Watch the entire video to learn more about Lax’s story and how his legacy has guided the company to the success it is today!
