One boot to rule them all

By Emma Peterson.

Cougar Paws are more than just boots, they’re an investment that can help save lives and money.

Working on the roof is a dangerous job, which is why having top-notch safety equipment and gear is of the utmost importance. Rich Deiley, the director of sales at Cougar Paws, stopped by to chat about this and why investing a little more up front can go a long way.

Cougar Paws is a brand that designs and distributes boots and accessories for roofers, appraisers and other professionals looking for grip, traction and comfort on the roof. They were founded in 1996 by Dan Cougar and feature a unique design with replaceable traction pads on the sole of the shoe. Rich explained a bit more about this part of the design, saying, “There’s this foam rubber on the bottom. Everyone has used foam rubber at some point in time of their life, from car seats, couch cushions, you name it, it’s used... Dan Cougar did his research and chose this sponge foam rubber out of thousands because it has the best gripping in the industry.” The foam rubber is attached to the sole of the boot itself with an industrial Velcro, which keeps it secure and helps keep roofers safer. As it naturally wears down over time, the wearer will notice a lip on the boot become more apparent. This acts as a barometer for when to replace the pads.

This incredible design is one of the reasons Cougar Paws are such a good investment. Rich broke down some of the pricing, sharing, “Some might say a $200.00 boot is too expensive.
Well, my answer to that is go buy yourself a pair of any other contractor boots, and they’ll also be $200 plus dollars, if not more.” And if you find one that’s cheaper, that means the quality isn’t probably as good. Rich used a pair of tennis shoes as an example, “If you buy cheap tennis shoes, they’ll wear out in a month.
What are they, 30-40 dollars for each pair? And then they're shredded in a month or less.
So are you going to buy a brand-new pair of those shoes once every three to four weeks? That gets more expensive than a pair of $200.00 boots, quickly.” Because of the replaceable pads and the high-quality materials that make up Cougar Paws boots, many contractors have actually found that they have saved money by equipping their crew with them. One distributor told Rich, “This boot has made me over $10 million. I have my original pair of Cougar Paws in a frame in my office, and we call it the $10 million boot.
”

Are you ready to invest in a safe and more economical future on the roof? Find the right pair of Cougar Paws for you!
