No More Guessing. EagleView Helps Improve Contractor Profitability With New Waste Factor Calculation

EagleView Contractor Profitability
July 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

Here at EagleView, we’re constantly looking to see how we can help our customers solve their biggest problems using the latest technology.

When roofs are damaged due to normal wear and tear or as the result of a storm, a “guesstimation game” begins in which contractors and insurance carriers try to determine exactly how much material and labor are required to replace a roof. The calculation is often very subjective. Every contractor has a different approach and while it may work for them, it’s not consistent. Some apply standard waste percentages based on the complexity of a roof or the experience of a crew, while more inexperienced roofers pick a number and hope for the best.

With EagleView’s latest enhancement to its roof reports, we’re offering a more scientific and consistent approach to helping customers calculate the waste they can expect on residential roof replacements. The new Suggested Waste Factor feature, announced at Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Expo today, uses roof measurement data specific to individual properties and a proprietary algorithm to deliver more accurate and consistent waste calculations.

For contractors, Suggested Waste Factor ensures the right quantity of materials is ordered the first time around, improving margins on jobs, and avoiding the delays and hassles of over or under ordering.

For insurance carriers, Suggested Waste Factor helps adjusters more accurately estimate the materials needed for roof replacements. It also provides an unbiased third party benchmark to compare against to avoid overpaying on claims, and to inform supplemental coverage discussions.

The new Suggested Waste Factor calculation is now available in all residential 3D roof reports. These reports can be accessed from any desktop or from iOS or Android mobile devices using the EagleView App. Starting in early August, customers will also see enhancements to the 3D visualizer with the addition of wall renderings in the Premium Roof and ClaimsReady Reports, and the addition of wall measurements in the WallsLite and the Walls Premium Reports. Also available will be a new display of calculations with decimals added to feet-based measurements. The benefit to contractors is a visualizer that’s an even more effective sales tool they can use to help them prepare for a homeowner meeting.

By automating the Suggested Waste Factor calculation and enhancing the visualizer, EagleView helps improve its customers’ bottom line so they can focus on the installation and provide a great homeowner experience. These new capabilities are just another example of how we like to focus on technology so our customers don’t have to.

As the first-ever benchmark waste calculation, SWF will provide customers with an objective, third-party estimate how much material and labor are required to replace a roof. It will help contractors avoid excess costs and production delays, while assisting insurance companies in accurately paying claims and informing supplemental coverage discussions – effectively cutting out significant and costly processes in both industries.

Other benefits include:

  • SWF can be used in real-time, as EagleView is the only provider of roof measurements that take the unique characteristics of each property into consideration, without any manual input.
  • In August, EagleView will unveil SWF Wave 2 technology, which enhances the 3D visualizer model and implements wall renderings and measurements. Valuable sales tools can now be generated without ever setting foot on a property.
  • Contractors will be able to show homeowners a complete 3D structure, including walls and wall measurements. SWF will break the age-old stereotypes of construction estimates being incorrect and vague and will enable contractors to win more bids with real-time data and visualization tools.
