NFP’s Shelly Duhaime Featured as Guest Blogger

NFP Shelly Duhaime Featured as RCS Influencer
February 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

RoofersCoffeeShop® guest bloggers are roofing industry experts who share their perspectives and expertise each month on a variety of topics.

Insurance can be complicated, so many of us just don’t like to think about it. But when it comes time for you to the use that insurance, it’s critical to have to right coverages in place — and a popular way for roofing contractors to insure their businesses is through insurance captives. They can be somewhat difficult to understand, so that’s why we thought it would be important to add an insurance perspective to our Influencer topics and we turned to an expert: Shelly Duhaime.

Shelly is a Captive Specialist for NFP and has enjoyed impressive coast-to-coast successes, bringing over 21 years of construction industry-specific claim experience with some of her most impressive work in the challenging jurisdictions of New York and California.

Having mined a deep understanding of profitable underwriting, brokerage, re-insurance, and construction defect claims across her remarkable career, Shelly’s built a sterling reputation growing service teams from the ground up, managing risk for over 75 roofing contractors across the country and holding insurance licenses in 45 states. The architect behind two of the country’s most successful roofing industry captive programs, she’s disrupted over 80 broker-client relationships, designed, developed and placed multiple construction-specific products across the industry and has maintained programs that continue to thrive today, remaining very successfully in returning substantial reductions in claim dollars and incidents per man-hour worked.

While expertly managing these programs, Shelly’s responsibilities have included the design of critical best practices, underwriting standards, program growth and educational seminars for the insured groups in addition to her establishing accountability practices and individual company trainings. Shelly has spent the last 15 years working closely with upper-level management for some of the largest professional roofing contractors in the country, guiding instrumental cultural changes for her clients, which has led to overall improved risk performance, and strategically directing, implementing and executing Captive Board objects.

Shelly has worked closely with claim advocates as claim portfolio management strategist, implementing innovative protocols for managing claims by delivering impactful risk protocols, maximizing recovery and loss strategies while aggressively monitoring action plans to closure for professional roofing contractors and consistently producing claim closure rations over 100% with minimal IBNR ratios. Over the past two decades, she has built a robust panel of experts, specifically focused on roofing industry issues and has had great success placing heavy-class risk profitably, from nursing homes in receivership and meat-packing plants all the way to fast food insurance programs with franchise distribution.

Shelly belongs to multiple industry associations and currently serves on the Board and is a founding member of National Women in Roofing (NWIR) and is founding chairperson of the Education Committee.  She has been a National Roofing Legal Resource Center speaker, Anderson Kill Panel Member and has conducted numerous insurance industry seminars focused on construction risk.
