The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) announced their first-of-its-kind virtual coatings training program exclusively on RoofersCoffeeShop® in a Read Listen Watch (RLW)! Join Heidi J. Ellsworth and RCMA Technical Director Chadwick Collins as they introduce the new training program and discusson why training programs are so vital to the industry.
The training modules will cover evaluating and preparing surfaces for roof coatings, roof coating technologies and roof coating application best practices. The first module launched in September, with the next two modules following soon after, however the courses here are ongoing. The modules are designed to bring the best the industry has to the contractors, consultants, engineers, everyone.
“We make it really super easy. You go to RCMA's website, roofcoatings.org and at the banner at the top, the very first option on the far left is the virtual training program menu button. Has a drop-down menu, it'll take you to the landing page,” explains Chadwick on how accessible the training is. “$100 per module is our pricing option. We thought that looking at other training options and the fact that this is virtual and accessible anytime and we want people to learn this stuff. We're not wanting to try to keep it secret or put it behind a huge paywall or anything. We want this information to be accessed”
These modules are designed to save contractors and consultants from heartache and bad first interactions with coatings by telling them important information up front and offering an opportunity to get certified in these areas. This is particularly exciting information for contractors expanding their offerings into coating who are looking for training and a base level education.
“A lot of things that we cover in these modules are the things they have to cover when they go train a contractor,” says Chadwick “I think a lot of our members see this as kind of a prerequisite course for them to do their product trainings now. If they work with a contractor, I think a lot of them are thinking about if a contractor wants to be trained on their product line, their first question is going to be, 'Have you done any of RCMAs training program? Have any of your technicians done that?' And then, that'll be the entry point for them to say, 'Hey, before we come out and train you on our products, a great place for your guys to start or to do this training program.'"
This program is a great way to elevate the industry as a whole through promoting education and certification. In an industry that is changing so rapidly via technology and product innovations, this level of education and support is only becoming more necessary as more and more contractors and companies look to invest in themselves.
“I want everybody to be knowledgeable and be able to facilitate and use best practices installing products, because I love hearing all the coating success stories,” says Chadwick. “It's really a win-win for everybody involved with this program being available.
