MBTechnology’s SBS Shingle Starter (Starter SBS) is a premium starter strip that is coated with SBS rubberized asphalt compound and surfaced with black ceramic granules, giving your starter shingle roll enhanced flexibility and weathering.
Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) is a type of synthetic rubber derived from styrene and butadiene. The elastic compounds of SBS are flexible and durable, improving the weak points of asphalt as a material. Starter shingles are an integral part of an asphalt shingle roof system, acting as a barrier for the roof to protect eaves and rake edges. As the essential first layer of a weather-tight roof, these shingles help the roof shed water rather than letting it slip under the shingles. MBTechnology’s SBS Shingle Starter is non-porous and inherently a watertight membrane.
Starter shingles also greatly improve wind resistance by sealing the finished shingles to the roof. Starter shingles help to prevent shingles from blowing off in harsh weather conditions and generally lend themselves to the performance of the roof. With a nail-down starter material that is fiberglass reinforced, you can be sure that when you use SBS starter you are delivering a high-performing roof.
Using starters makes the installation faster and easier, these starter shingles eliminate the need to cut shingle tabs, reducing the ultimate application time versus using shingle tabs. Plus, starter shingles give a clean, sharp, uniform edge that gives your roof a more attractive and finished look.
