Thomas Goble, more commonly known as “Pops,” is now living under a brand-new roof in his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. As a military veteran, Pops was nominated by Chris Aranda from the Vet Center to receive a new roof through Monarch Roofing’s program Roof for Troops. In an interview with WMBF News, Stephanie Bohardt with Monarch Roofing explained, “He’s been the one giving back to everyone else so it’s great to give back to him.”
GAF Roofing created the Roofs for Troops program. WMBF News reported that, “Every year Monarch Roofing selects a Veteran or Service member that has been nominated or brought to their attention due to the condition of their home and especially their roof." Veterans are nominated by community members or through one of the Veteran groups Monarch Roofing partners with.
Once the nomination comes in, research is done on the Veteran and the home, ensuring the house is in good enough condition to be repaired and reroofed. Pops’ roof needed attention. Stephanie Bohardt conveyed to WMBF News, “They had some issues with it and we were really nervous it wouldn’t make it through another storm so we’re excited for them to be under a safe and secure roof again.”
Monarch Roofing didn’t work alone. Two local companies, Waccamaw Heating and Cooling and Patriot Painting provided donations for Pops as well. On their website, Monarch Roofing reflected on their Roof for Troops program expressing, “It is truly heartwarming to see so many businesses coming together to help one Veteran who has fought for our country...Each time we put together our Roofs for Troops event we are so overwhelmed with other businesses who reach out and want to help.” Monarch Roofing wrote about their Roof for Troops program.
Pops has not only been committed to his community, but has been dedicated to and served our country. His community felt, “this was the least they could do for him.” Monarch Roofing is happy to provide this service to Veterans, explaining, “These great patriots have done so much for our country and community that giving them a free roof seems so small.”
