Meet The App That is Solving the Labor Shortage

Heidi sits down with co-founder of Labor Central Eric Carlisle to talk about how this simple technology is solving complex industry problems. 

In Season 4, Episode 49 of the Roofing Road Trips podcast Heidi J. Ellsworth pays a visit to cofounder and Chief Marketing Officer with Labor Central,  Eric Carlisle. The two discuss the app and how it is working to ease the labor shortage by finding crews fast through breakthrough technology. 

Labor Central is an on-demand recruiting platform connecting roofing contractors to roofing crews to deliver manpower to available projects. “We are trying to centralize labor sources and labor pools for the roofing industry today,” says Eric. “This is a solution we're hoping that will change the industry and how we work.” 

In addition to matching contractors and crews, the platform is designed to increase productivity, pay and rate crews, and track and document projects.  

Getting started with Labor Central is easy. “Go to app.laborcentral.com,  create an account as a contractor. We even ask you to fill out a quick little profile so we know more about you as you're looking so we can better match you to crews ,” explains Eric. “Just click a button, click search, add the criteria that you're looking for.” 

You can also post a project to the site. All you have to do is put in the roof type, the start date and the close date. “Once you hit the project report, it goes out and notifies anybody that meets that criteria within the state currently,” says Eric. “In that state, crews get alerted there's a project posted, here's the type, here's where it is, here's the owner or the contractor, call them.” 

Labor Central is simple solution to a complex problem. The ultimate goal is to ease the labor shortage by creating a centralized system that knows when people retire or graduate so that we can gage a better sense of the labor pool.  

“What Labor Central really is, it's an industry solution,” says Eric. “We're trying to create a platform that promotes education, that promotes viability, sustainability too through education and through good quality work, and supporting the manufacturers.”
