Meet the 2024 winner of Outstanding Commercial Project Snow Retention System - Turner Morris Commercial Roofing!

Meet the 2024 winner of Outstanding Commercial Project Snow Retention System - Turner Morris Commercial Roofing!
September 9, 2024 at 12:30 p.m.

By Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.

To keep pedestrians safe from winter snow slides, this project features two rows of snow fences.

To provide a safe passageway for pedestrians, Turner Morris Commercial Roofing installed two rows of snow fences atop Park Plaza condominiums at the base of the ski resort in Beaver Creek, Colorado. The area covers a renovated spa area with constant foot traffic. With heavy annual snowfall in Beaver Creek, the building owners cannot allow snow and ice to slide off the roof onto pedestrian areas below.

“The standing seam copper roof is beautiful, but because copper is a softer metal, more care is required to ensure you have the correct product installed to support the weight of the snow and ice buildup throughout the winter without compromising the roof system,” says Mark Hubbard, president of Turner Morris Commercial Roofing out of Arvada, Summit County and Eagle County Colorado. “With some helpful input from the design team at RMSG, we settled on installing 3-bar snow fences secured to the standing seam copper with S5! U Clamps, powder coated in dark bronze.

“In higher altitude, drier climates like Beaver Creek, copper tends to patina to a dark bronze over time, which will result in the new snow retention system closely matching the color of the copper as it ages.”

This award-winning project in the 2024 Show Us Our Snow Guards Contest sponsored by Rocky Mountain Snow Guards uses the Blizzard Heavy Duty III with S-5! U Clamps system. As Rocky Mountain Snow Guards designed, this aluminum 3-pipe clamp-to-seam system will spread the load across the copper seams and decrease the likelihood of failure or damage to the standing seam copper roof system.

Turner Morris Commercial Roofing has completed hundreds of projects in high-alpine environments over the last 30+ years. It continues to utilize Rocky Mountain Snow Guards on many of these projects as a trusted partner to help design and supply appropriate snow retention systems as needed.
