Meet Dennis Humphrey, Winner of a Case of Geocel Phantom™ Metal Roof Sealant

Dennis Humphrey Geocel winner
June 28, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS COO.

The sealant was the perfect prize for this long-time fan of Geocel.

We love giveaways atthe Coffee Shop and we try to always feature our winners. When Diane Burbridge from Capitol Roofing in Cheyenne, Wyoming entered the giveaway and was selected as a winner, we contacted her for an interview. She told us that the person we should be talking to is her company President Dennis Humphrey – and what a great story Dennis has!

Dennis has been roofing homes in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska since 1979. That was his senior year of high school, and he needed a way to fund his passion for professional rodeo. He explains, “My former partner and I were rodeo guys. We rode bucking bulls and horses. We started roofing houses to get money to go rodeo.”

In 1985, they established the company officially as Capitol Roofing. “I did rodeo mostly full time from ‘79 to ‘92 as a professional bull rider and had the roofing business as well. I quit riding bulls in 1992 and the roofing business continued to grow.”

Dennis bought out his former partner in 2003 and the business has continued to flourish. His two sons worked with him for a while, but they inherited that entrepreneurial spirit from their dad, and each eventually started their own businesses with one focusing on gutters and the other on roofing.

Capitol Roofing installs a lot of metal roofing in their service areas and Dennis was familiar with Geocel. “We are doing more metal all the time, so this is a very complimentary product for us.”

When asked what he likes most about roofing, Dennis shared, “I like the fact that you start with a blank canvas in the morning and then can see the transformation.”

He also likes that roofing is tough work and keeps you fit. “Just the actual act of doing roofing work keeps you in good shape. It's good for you physically. It works your cardio, your back, your legs, your arms, just about every part of your body. I just kind of like the fact that you just got to be kind of tough to be a roofer.”

“The roofing business has been really good to us,” added Dennis. “We've been here a long time and that's really played well for us as far as being a company who you know, like and trust.”
