When you’re working on a residential reroofing project, it’s important to remember that your jobsite is also someone’s home. With these projects, customer service is about going above and beyond. It’s knowing your homeowners and remembering the small things, like closing the gate if they have a dog. This is what drove Heath Hicks and Eric Mackintosh to develop The Catch-All, they were realizing that the traditional debris cleanup methods were leaving customers unsatisfied and even dissuading some of them from getting work done on their roof. While at the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas’ 2024 tradeshow, Heidi J. Ellsworth caught up with Heath to talk about this.
He explained, “Homeowners typically don't want to replace their roof because it's going to be a difficult process. It's going to be dirty, it's going to be messy, there's all these cons... And so, in general, I realized that raising the standard of what roofers could deliver could change the perspective of customers about getting a roof, and then I could actually sell more roofs.” The solution he and Eric developed was The Catch-All. This takes debris clean up, which is traditionally a reactive practice, to a proactive plan. In the past, cleaning up things like nails from a job site meant having a crew member go out after the job with a magnet or metal detector. But The Catch-All makes it so those nails are caught and collected before they can even hit the ground.
This keeps the homeowners’ property safer and cleaner. Not only does this save roofers time at the end of the project, but it also makes their customers happier. Since the introduction of products like The Catch-All, Heath has really noticed the industry rising to meet this new standard, “When we see somebody post a picture of their job site, even if they’re not using The Catch-All, they have better protection. Their tarps look better, they're using them more effectively, they have more plywood around, just in general, the standard of protecting people's property has risen since we pushed the envelope. And so, even if people don't buy The Catch-All, it's still a compliment to us when we see them treating their job sites better.”
