Looking for labor in all the right places

Labor Central - RLW - Looking for Labor in all the Right Places - WATCH
November 6, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

By Adam Cabrera.

Technology is making a big impact on how businesses stay competitive and find qualified labor.

In a recent Read, Listen, Watch webinar, host Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down to chat with experts from Labor Central and SRS Distribution to talk about the labor shortage and the innovative technology that is changing the way roofing companies find workers.

John Van Beek, CRO for Labor Central and roofing industry expert, talked about how the needs of roofing contractors have changed in recent years. “During the COVID era a lot of roofing contractors really expanded their work. They went from roofing to gutters to siding to maybe windows... because they didn't have the experience in finding qualified crews for these crafts, Labor Central was a great option for them,” he said. As businesses have grown to include more services so have their need for skilled laborers who can meet their needs.

Stuart Tapley, an account executive at SRS Distribution, also pointed out that there has been an increase in the number of new roofing companies creating a highly competitive labor market. “The pie is only so big,” he said. “That's one of the solutions that Labor Central has provided which has been awesome. We've had a lot of people with our digital platform.”

Contractors who integrate digital technology into their business operations can also stay ahead of their competition. Tyler Grams, a roofer with Mark Kaufman Roofing, provided testimonial about the product and explained how his business has been able to maintain a large staff of crews with help from SRS and Labor Cental. He shared, “Having that ability to locate those people so that we're not falling behind... I think that that's where Labor Central definitely is going to make a big impact in our future.”
