Live From IRE 2024: Owens Corning - TRANSCRIPT
April 11, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.

Editor's note: The following is the transcript of an live interview with Sally Stearns, Jon Gardner, Chris Robinson and Jessica Tinney, all from Owens Corning . You can read the transcript below or watch the video.

Sally Stearns: Hi, I'm Sally Stearns here with Owens Corning at this year's International Roofing Expo in Booth 6207. We're really excited to accelerate residential roofing at this year's IRE, and we're excited to showcase a lot of new innovations such as our Solar PROtect Program, PINKWRAP portfolio and a bunch of other features like design and inspire colors. So we're going to give you a full walkthrough of our booth content today and we're excited, so come along.

Jon Gardner: Hey, Jon Gardner here with Owens Corning, and I'm standing right behind our Solar PROtect. This is a brand new offering from Owens Corning here. It's called the Solar PROtect Program. So what is it? Solar PROtect is all about helping our contractors scale and solve some of the biggest challenges when it comes to solar. And you know what? It turns out that there's three very basic elements, but very important elements to being successful with solar. The first is the system. The system that you're putting underneath the solar is very critical. Number two is the warranty. This is the first of its kind in the industry with regard to roofing and solar. We have combined our warranty so that our roofing contractors can now offer roof with solar with an extended warranty. And number three, the piece that eludes most contractors is the training. How do I bring solar into my roofing business?

And we provide the training from soup to nuts with regard to how you can bring the solar business into your existing roofing business. And so it really starts with why solar? What are the elements of solar that are critical to bring it into your business? How to sell solar, how to estimate solar, how to propose solar, how to market solar. And so those are the key elements when you think about what are the important pieces to bringing business, bringing the solar business into your roofing business, our training, our system and our warranty. So have an opportunity to talk to one of your local ASMs or reach out to anybody here at Owens Corning. We'd love to share more about the Solar PROtect Program and how you can bring solar into your existing roofing business easily without adding any money to your existing marketing strategies.

Megan Vandecaveye: Hi, I'm Megan Vandecaveye. I'm a marketing manager at Owens Corning. So I want to talk through our Owens Corning University panel. So this panel talks through our OCU umbrella. This is our encompassing training platform for Owens Corning roofing contractor networks and distribution. So underneath this, there's three categories. This is our online training. This is where you'll go to learn about a variety of topics from installation to sales, all online. The live training, this is our in-person events that are scaled nationally across the country. We cover a variety of topics with industry leading experts. And then our latest addition is the Distributor Academy and this focuses on training distribution on a variety of topics to learn more about the Owens Corning roofing contractor network.

Chris Robinson: Hey, we're here at IRE 2024. Really excited to highlight our house wrap lineup that we're debuting here. We have our PINKWRAP Premium air barrier, our PINKWRAP classic weather barrier and then our PINKWRAP seam tape. All of these products are going to be available for distribution starting in March.

Jessica Tinney: Hi, I'm Jessica Tinney. I'm the product manager for Duration and Duration Designer. I'm here to show you today what colors we're showcasing at IRE 2024. We believe you should live in a world of color and we think your roof is something that can really promote and have an everyday impact on your life. So we have in our showcasing some of our best and newest colors in our Duration product line, as well as our Duration Designer product line. We have midnight plum here, which is the only purple grayish hue shingle color, did really well, a shingle color of the year last year, as well as some of our newest desert rose, peppercorn and sandcastle. What you'll also notice is Duration Designer, which has more intense tabs, but allows for differentiation in your neighborhoods, on your roof and even in your assortment when selling to homeowners.

One awesome thing to note about Owens Corning is that we have a color scientist. We have a huge marketing team focused on color and we've patented colors. You can only get them from Owens Corning, midnight plum, black sable and bourbon are all patented colors. And here at the booth we are voting for our favorite color. I think everyone should vote midnight plum, but we'll see who the winner is at the end of it. Hi, we're at the Duration section of the Owens Corning booth. The difference is easy to see and we want to showcase that here with our Duration series shingle products. All Duration shingle products have a SureNail strip in the nail zone. It's an extremely visible strip, hence, the duration is easy or the difference is easy to see. The color is something that we pride ourselves in from an aesthetics perspective, but the performance which is highly visible to our installers is also something that we want homeowners to know, is a performance-enhancing product or feature of our Duration product line.

So one great thing about the SureNail strip is it's patented only available through Owens Corning on the front of the shingle. It allows for a highly visible nailing zone, as well as a stronger sealant bond between the sealant on the back of the shingle and the fabric-woven technology on the actual nailing zone. Another great thing is this allows for nine times better blow-through against competition that does not have this nailing zone as well as better pull-through and wind resistance because you're able to seal at a stronger rate than many other competitors. And we're really excited on how Duration has performed in storms, in different types of weather and we're looking forward to seeing the continuation and growing mix across the country.
