Life’s Sometimes Not a Beach…..Hurricane Michael, Mexico Beach, Florida

Stormseal Hurricane Michael
August 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

By Stormseal.

It's been eight months since Hurricane Michael hit Florida with category five winds pounding its coast and Mexico Beach, but the area is still in clean up mode, just as hurricane season is about to hit again.

In April the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration increased Hurricane Michael to a category five storm, and this made it one of only four storms recorded to hit the United States at such intensity. Many homes were lost and many damaged.

But there is one damaged home that’s ready for the onslaught of the next hurricane season, standing out from other buildings. Its bright orange roof shouts out: ‘Stormseal’, now protected with its patented heat sealed, storm resistant covering.

Owners Dan and Cindy O’Connell said Hurricane Michael devastated their home causing huge damage. “The entry to our home was washed away including the deck. We lost part of the roof, all of the front sliders were blow out and we even found sand in our light fittings,” Dan and Cindy said. “All of the contents were destroyed by the wind and rain and all of the drywall and floor coverings had to be removed. We are one house back from the beach and took a direct hit from the North wall of the Hurricane. The damage was catastrophic and most homes are simply gone,” they said.

They have been grateful to Stormseal which was installed because they had heard of it locally. “We work next door to Stormseal and were familiar with the quality of the product so when I told them about the damage sustained by our house, they sprang into action and within a day or two the house was completely covered in Stormseal, and still is!” they said.

Stormseal has been protecting their home for around eight months as of June 2019. Dan and Cindy are grateful for this because bad weather has hit since, causing neighbours tarpaulins to fly off. “We’ve had many days of rain and wind squalls during the past months yet the house has remained dry inside and the Stormseal still looks the same. Most of the tarpaulins in the area have either blown off or been replaced a number of times,” Dan and Cindy said.

“Stormseal has allowed us to ‘get on with life’. We are all so busy these days, a disaster like this really turns things upside down,” they said. “With Stormseal we’ve been able to salvage what we could and get on with the insurance process…which takes time! We haven’t had to worry about additional damages or trying to secure the tarpaulin over and over again.”

The peace of mind that Stormseal creates is clear in Dan and Cindy’s case, allowing them to get on with sorting out their claim and protecting their beautiful home. They did have a message for the insurance companies and other home owners reiterating how Stormseal has protected them from further weather events:

“Homeowners and insurance companies need to know about this product. It has really has helped us in a time of need and given us peace of mind that our home is protected. The house has remained dry inside and the Stormseal still looks the same. Most of the tarpaulins in the area have either blown off or been replaced a number of times.”

Stormseal has proven in this case and many that it does its job properly and alleviates stress on owners. It takes only a day for a contractor to train how to install Stormseal, at the same time helping to give back to their community after a devastating storm has hit.
