Leveraging team dynamics to elevate your roofing business

GLO Leveraging team dynamics to elevate your roofing business
August 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Unlocking the potential within your team can drive remarkable growth for your roofing business.

In this Read, Listen, Watch (RLW) from RoofersCoffeeShop, Heidi J. Ellsworth discusses innovative strategies to leverage team dynamics for business scalability. Heidi is joined by Monica Vornbrock and Melissa Chapman, co-founders of The GLO Group, a brand engagement and organizational health firm revolutionizing the roofing industry.

Monica opens with an emphasis on the importance of leadership development. She notes, "Are you walking the walk? That's the biggest thing. Are you really committed to change? Are you committed to giving support to your leaders and explaining to them what the benefit is of adopting a transformation because it is a cultural transformation." Monica presents a telling statistic: while 83% of businesses acknowledge the importance of leadership development, only 5% have programs in place.

Melissa sheds light on the pervasive issue of "quiet quitting," where employees disengage and perform the bare minimum. "That equates to approximately $9 trillion of cost of employee inactive engagement or disengagement," she shares, citing a Gallup study from 2023. Melissa explains the necessity of connecting with employees, understanding their goals and values, and fostering an environment where they feel valued and integral to the company's success.

Effective communication is a cornerstone of the GLO Group's approach. Melissa points out that 20% of lost sales globally result from poor internal communication. "It impacts your productivity, it impacts your performance, meeting deadlines, all of these things and it impacts your customer experience," she says. Monica adds that techniques like mirroring — confirming messages to ensure understanding — and active listening can significantly improve communication and, consequently, team dynamics.

For leaders looking to foster a positive culture and drive business growth, Monica and Melissa offer actionable advice. They stress the importance of investing in leadership development, creating a safe environment for open communication, and understanding the diverse communication styles within a team.
