To address the ongoing need for a fire-rated residential roofing assembly, MBTechnology has been able to achieve a Class A Fire Rating for its roofing underlayment marketed under trade name of “layfast SBS ®.” This rating applies to layfast SBS® membrane when used under UL approved tile and shingle roofs.
According to Stephen L. Quarles, senior scientist, Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, Richburg, South Carolina, "In order for a given roof covering or assembly to be considered Class A, fire cannot penetrate through the roofing assembly into what would be the attic. Surface flame spread and ember generation requirements must also be met."
The Class A rating gives building and homeowners peace of mind that there home will have extra protection in the event of a fire, or flying embers from nearby fires.
Layfast SBS® is MBTechnology’s premiere SBS modified bitumen underlayment. The addition of SBS rubber to asphalt gives layfastSBS an elastomeric property, which is not available in common felt. layfastSBS also contains a higher percentage of asphalt for increased waterproofing protection. It’s the perfect upgrade to common 30/40# felt and is available in three grades: TU35, TU43 and TU70.
Approval: ASTM D226, D4601, ICC approved
Warranty: 10-, 15-, 20- and 30-year limited material warranty
