At this year’s International Roofing Expo (IRE) 2025 expo in San Antonio, VELUX Commercial showcased a blend of innovation, durability and smart design with its next generation daylighting systems. From hail-resistant domes to modular skylight configurations, the company made a compelling case for how daylighting can be both functional and forward-thinking in both commercial and residential applications.
In an interview with Lauren White at the VELUX booth, Candice Clark of VELUX Commercial North America highlighted a trio of standout products aimed at redefining the skylight category for commercial use.
One of the spotlight innovations was the Dynamic Dome, which Candice described as "really amazing" due to its structural integrity and optical performance. Candice explained that the frame design has a rigid extrusion, showing how difficult it is to bend even under pressure. Built with dual seals and a dry-seal system, the dome effectively manages moisture and simplifies reroofing — key concerns for builders and facility managers alike. Notably, it also comes with a 15-year hail warranty, adding peace of mind for the growing number of regions vulnerable to severe weather.
VELUX also introduced optical enhancements within the dome’s bevels that extend daylight collection into early mornings and late afternoons, especially useful in northern climates. “It doesn’t make the skylight brighter,” Candice noted, “but it does expand the daylighting throughout the time of day.”
Another highlight: tubular daylighting devices from the company’s Sun Tunnel line. Designed to reach interior rooms where traditional skylights can’t go, they bring natural light into classrooms, offices and meeting rooms — even those a floor below. These can also be equipped with dimmers for light control.
But perhaps the most striking offering was the modular skylight system, which Candice described as a “revolutionary” product. Factory-glazed and scalable, these systems are already being deployed in a variety of applications – from offices to airports and schools for example — and are equally suited to high-end residential spaces, complete with optional blinds and ventilation features. Candice noted the installation of four-module configurations over kitchens, master baths and even private pools.
While the products clearly speak to function, VELUX is pushing the aesthetic boundaries as well. “It really turns out to be an elegant design,” Candice said, referring to a recent installation on an equestrian ranch in Utah.
With over 80 years in the industry, VELUX is positioning itself not just as a skylight manufacturer, but as a daylighting solutions partner in both commercial and residential applications. Their offerings reflect a mix of technical excellence and architectural flexibility, backed by sustainability commitments and installation training programs.
