When it comes to having the right tools for the job, the ones used on the roof are only half of the equation for contractors. The tools employed by their team in the office are also crucial to ensuring their projects and overall business runs smoothly. In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth speaks to Brian Cook, the senior VP of Dataforma, to learn how his company is delivering the best technology tools to contractors looking to level up how they manage their businesses.
Dataforma’s story starts about 17 years ago with Mark Zeleznock and Daryl Maronic, who still work with the company today as CEO and president respectively. Brian shared a bit of what inspired them to build the company, saying, “There were all these typical problems in contractors' offices all over. A guy has Outlook but can't access those contacts from the field and has no idea where the service department's going today, who's bidding on what job and more.” Mark and Daryl saw these problems and realized that there were really only two options on the market for smaller contractors looking to solve them, generic programs that wouldn’t address the unique needs of a roofing company and high-price programs that were out of budget for a large amount of people. And so the duo, who spent their days working as contractors in the field, spent their nights developing Dataforma.
Today, Dataforma is a leading business management software for contractors across North America. Brian explained a bit of how contractors use Dataforma, saying, “In a perfect world, a contractor using Dataforma, every time they get a call for service or a new bid, it goes directly into our software. And that's where it starts and that's where they track the bid, store the documents, create a proposal and more.” By centralizing all of the information in one place, Dataforma takes customer relation management (CRM) and project management to the next level.
The key to all of this success is that the team at Dataforma has not lost sight of their core mission of serving contractors. Mark and Daryl founded the companies after years of experience working as contractors and, as Brian explained, “A lot of the people that work at Dataforma worked at a roofing company before that. We don't outsource anything, like customer service or tech people. So when you call Dataforma and say, ‘Hey, something's wrong,’ we truly want to help you because we’ve been in your shoes.”
