Jack Gottesman, Erin and Matt Weston - A New Look at Roofing

The importance of curb appeal and why beauty should equal performance.  

In Season 3, Episode 60 of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi J. Ellsworth meets with Erin and Matt Weston from Calendar Construction along with a Roofing Road Trips regular, Jack Gottesman with IKO. Erin and Matt have built an amazing company with a wholistic focus on the quality and functionality of the entire home. They are recognized in Charleston, West Virginia for their expert craftsmanship and their vow to never cut corners with customers. They have been internationally recognized by IKO Roofing multiple times, and even made the top of 2020's Best #IKOInspiration.  

“Our story is much different than a lot of others, for sure,” said Erin. “We started before we were even married back in 2015. I had just graduated from nursing school and we were kind of homeless. So, we started renovating [my] grandparents' home for us to live in, and it had gotten pretty dilapidated." 

Without any formal training, Erin and Matt were able to re-build the home, much to the disbelief of their family. The couple realized their talents lied in construction and decided to try their hand at running a construction business. To fund their beginnings as a company, Erin worked night shifts for the three years it took to get their business established.  

"I would work seven days a week just to stay away from her because she was sleeping," said Matt. “She'd have a list of things that she wanted done during that day and I would just take this list and I’d be like, ‘I don't even know how I can accomplish this in 12 hours,’ but somehow I would either complete it all or just add to the list tomorrow.” 

Matt and Erin’s company is unique because they focus on the entire home, not just the individual roof, siding, interior or exterior. Originally, they started with just the interior of a home, working mostly on bathrooms. This was before they started receiving calls from people who had been defrauded by an illegitimate contractor. People would ask the Weston’s for contractor suggestions or if they could re-roof their house. 

“Matt and I both have very strong moral compasses and this just did not sit right with us,” said Erin. “And one thing that's really important to us is our clients." 

Since then, Calendar Construction has provided a “full package” for their clients. Not only do they perform re-roofs, siding and customized outdoor living areas, but they also orchestrate how each piece of the home flows into the next - creating home exteriors that are as functional as they are beautiful. Erin and Matt use IKO products because they can depend on IKO to provide high-quality products that Erin and Matt can then use to provide their clients with the best possible project results.
