Integrating technology can be a tedious decision in a business. While it may make your business more efficient, it can take time to adapt and become proficient in new processes. In a recent Roofing Road Trips™ episode, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with Kevin Carfa of SRS Distribution and Roof Hub to talk about how to successfully develop your tech stack to create stronger workflows and the capabilities of their digital platform.
The roofing industry has typically been resistant to adapting to new technology, and with so many options and applications that don’t always talk to one another, it can be more of a hindrance than a benefit. Technology culture within a company needs to reach everyone whether they’re in the office, in the field or up on the roof, and it needs to be successful from bid to installation while still being easy to use, and that’s achieved through integration. Kevin explains, “Everybody has multiple apps that are all purpose-built for different things, but when they're not talking to each other, it almost becomes an operational burden... So really when you think about the importance of integrations, that is such a key player in who's going to win in this industry, who's going to be able to grow, and who's going to be able to outpace their competitors. And that's not just for the roofer, it's really the manufacturer, the distributor, the technology partner.”
When Roof Hub first launched, Kevin says, “It was primarily a transactional platform for the residential roofer. It gave them a place to come, and it gave them a way to place their material orders with SRS... You are sourcing material for a job and there's a whole series of features and capabilities that sit underneath.” As a distribution platform, material ordering is one of the first problems they are looking to fix for contractors.
Now, it can do just about anything you need, and all behind one login. “Can you transact and do it seamlessly with one finger, you absolutely can, but can you also get your weather updates, and look at every single invoice in passed order, not only digitally, but at SRS a total company? You absolutely can. Can you connect into your supplier rebate program? You absolutely can,” Kevin shares.
And where Roof Hub differentiates itself from its competitors is by taking the customer-first approach. Kevin explains, “We watch customer satisfaction scoring across the entire experience. So not only do we want to see growth in purchasing, but guess what, we want you to feel good about it. We want you to feel like it was valuable to you, and you found efficiencies by [adapting this technology].”
