In Ontario, Oregon, the Oregon Department of Health and Welfare leased a privately owned building at 186 East Lane. The building was faced with a serious issue during the winter of 2016/2017. Due to the unprecedented snowfall in the region, the building experienced multiple leaks that posed a significant threat of roof collapse, making snow removal an urgent and essential task.
The existing 49,000-square-foot roof was waterproofed with an EPDM roof membrane. Localized damage from snow shovels and removal equipment were identified as the culprits causing the roofing system failure. The roof was patched with Sika Joint Tape SA, a self-adhered reinforcing fabric, and coated with Sikalastic-621 TC. The EPDM surface was then pressure washed to provide a clean, sound substrate. All seams of the existing EPDM membrane were also locally reinforced with six-inch Sika Joint Tape SA and then the entire surface was primed before the fully reinforced Sikalastic 621 TC RoofPro membrane system was installed.
The fully reinforced, fluid applied RoofPro membrane system was chosen for its ease of application and ability to go over the existing EPDM Roof membranes. This ability allows for the limited disturbance to the building occupants.
The Sikalastic RoofPro System has now protected this building for three years and the owners are very happy with their choice to go with Sika and enjoy the peace of mind and performance the Sikalastic RoofPro products provide.
