Apple Maps Restart at Ground Zero
The first thing we're going to be talking about within Apple Maps is kind of cool, because they haven't been doing much for a really long time. When Apple Maps launched, it didn't go
according to plan and they didn't actually have the turnout they were looking for. Since then, they've been repairing small stuff in the back to try to make it functional.
However, they just released that instead of trying to bandage it, they are going to rebuild it from the ground up! Now for businesses, this means that your business listing will be showing up on here. Just to tell you guys how that connects to the customers, Apple Maps is actually the map
that defaults on all iPhones, so they're gonna be rebuilding that feature. Instead of your Google My Business listing showing up there, it's gonna be your Apple business listing! That's something we definitely want you to be aware of as they're updating this platform, because Apple Maps hasn't been the best at updating information, period.
With this new platform we're hoping that they do that. If you want people to be able to find you within Apple when they're using their directions app, you should definitely update your business
information there. We do also have a visual inside of this article, and it will show you how few businesses are actually listed so far on Apple Maps compared to the Google one. It's a great place to optimize if you're looking to reach more customers!
How to Spot Fake Domains
So the next we're gonna be talking about is fake domains. So a lot of you have been calling in, and saying, "Hey, I got this letter in the mail; someone's saying I need to renew my domain name." Now, a lot of times, if you don't know the company, you probably aren't working with them. And domain names are usually managed through a login access, which we’ve
talked about a little bit in the past. We have an article that we wrote specifically to show you images of letters that we have had clients receive about fake domains, and how they look.
A lot of times, they have some fine print and some other things that make it look
like a bill, but you actually don't have to pay it. The way that these scams work is by sending a document that looks very official like it is a bill, and what they're hoping for is that you have some sort of accountant or billing department that's just going to process and pay this
really quickly--it'll just slide through your radar.
So what we've done in the blog is scan one of those documents and point out some of the areas you can check out to validate whether or not you're actually working with this
company, if they actually host your domain, and then we also put some tips in there about what it will look like if your real hosting company gets in contact with you. You should be able to get a better handle on whether or not you should be paying that bill or reaching out to them.
And especially if you have an off-site accounting department that takes all of your billing information, it's good to communicate with them about what they should be looking for. Because
sometimes that's how they use it to their advantage is to say, "Oh, this is a bill," and people just pay it because they think it's something the business commonly gets. So that's one thing to be aware of.
Facebook Targeting Policies are Still Changing
The next thing we're going to be talking about is some targeting changes within Facebook. We actually do have a link so you can listen to a podcast that we love. It's called Up First, it's by
National Public Radio, which has a lot of great news.
And this week they talked about specifically some things that Facebook is doing. Facebook took down 23 different campaigns they were running for specifically political reasons. Now, Facebook has been cracking down overall on trying to remove that kind of stuff from the content that's being served, as well as advertising. But we’ve found that this is having a huge impact on personal and small business accounts and their demographic targeting. So, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your Facebook ads if you are running any right now, because there might be some changes that suddenly happen that could either increase the cost-per-click dramatically or could decrease your reach of the people you're trying to target. If that happens, you'll have to reset the different demographic information of how you want to get people interested in your advertising.
Font Freebie!
So those were the top things we're going to talk about today. We DO have a freebie for you. It is
a really cool game. It's about logos and font types. If you are at all interesting in trying to look at building a new website, this is a fun place to just go play around and interact with fonts. Because it shows you on different words how the brushstrokes are different within those different fonts. If you're thinking about having your entire website content in this specific font, you should go check it out. It is a memory game, so it is a little bit interactive: it's kind of fun! Check it out here.
