How to Take Your Career (and the Industry) to the Next Level

NRCA Take your Career to the Next Level
June 15, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

By Colin Sheehan, RCS Reporter.

NRCA’s ProCertification program provides contractors and field workers with the opportunity to prove their skills and professionalism.

Season two, episode 17 of Coffee Conversation was sponsored by Johns Manville and featured Jared Ribble from the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and Kelly Van Winkle from King of Texas Roofing. They joined RCS Partner Heidi J. Ellsworth and Johns Manville's Todd Nathan and Cody Butler, to share what is happening with the growth of NRCA’s ProCertification program.

Currently, roofing professionals throughout the U.S. are taking advantage of the opportunities of certification for roofing mastery. Notably, Johns Manville has begun offering ProCertification support for interested contractors, and in this conversation Todd and Cody seek to answer all the guests’ questions about the program.

Kelly, a third-generation roofing professional in the industry, spoke to the importance of having a certification program and what the program brought to King of Texas Roofing.

“I think it does many wonderful things for both the contractor owner, as well as the actual working staff, the field workers, and it sends an important message to the rest of the world about the professionalism of our industry,” said Kelly. “I've just been grateful to be involved at the committee level, at the board level and the executive committee level in the past to help facilitate that message.”

Jared Ribble, also a third-generation member of the roofing industry, is the director of NRCA’s ProCertification program. Throughout years of working in the industry and as a high school coach, NRCA brought Jared in to bolster their Qualified Trainer program, where he teaches people how to become great trainers.

It wasn’t long until he started working on the ProCertification program which provides contractors with an opportunity to prove their skills and professionalism to their company and their customers. Having a renowned certification program also illustrates that people can develop fulfilling and successful careers in the roofing industry, and that roofing is a trade to be respected.

“We have certified electricians, we have certified plumbers, we even have certified chefs," said Jared. “Pro-certification is the first opportunity ever for a roofer, a roofing installer, to take an exam and get certified [with] an official certification from a third-party company."

Read, Listen or Watch the entire Coffee Conversations to learn more about NRCA’s ProCertification program and how it is advancing roofing careers and the industry.
