How 3D animations are changing the industry

How 3D animations are changing the industry

By Jesse Sanchez.

Cutting-edge technology brings clarity and trust to homeowners.

In the ever-evolving roofing industry, technology is bridging the gap between contractors and homeowners in unprecedented ways. This episode of Roofing Road Trips®, hosted by Heidi J. Ellsworth, explores this transformation through a conversation with Patrick Muhs of Moose Roofing. The discussion focused on the powerful intersection of sales and technology — specifically, how 3D animations are redefining the customer experience.

“I’ve always understood the concept that it’s not what you do, but what you duplicate that makes you successful,” Patrick said. “And then, of course, in today’s age, we all realize that it’s not even what you do or what you duplicate or what you can automate that creates success in a business.”

This philosophy led to the development of Sales Assist, an innovative tool that leverages 3D animation to help contractors clearly explain the complexities of roofing to their customers. Traditionally, roofing salespeople have relied on hand-drawn diagrams or verbal descriptions to communicate roofing processes. However, these methods often fall short, leaving homeowners confused about the work being proposed.

“We’re not all artists and we’re not all good at doing tremendously detailed presentations,” Patrick said. “So we put all that into a can [package] to give people an opportunity to utilize these tremendous animations that explain our process in detail.”

The impact has been significant. By incorporating animated visuals into sales presentations, Moose Roofing has not only improved communication but also increased customer confidence and sales conversion rates. The ability to show, rather than just tell, makes a compelling case for why a particular roofing process is necessary and how it will be executed.

Another key benefit of this approach is standardization. The same visual explanations used to train production teams are now being leveraged by sales representatives. This ensures that what is being sold is exactly what is being installed, reducing misunderstandings and boosting customer satisfaction.

"By doing that, we ensure the homeowner has a clear expectation of exactly what they’re getting for their money," Patrick explained.

This level of transparency also enhances trust, an essential component of any successful contractor-homeowner relationship. Homeowners are often overwhelmed by roofing decisions, particularly when insurance claims and unfamiliar materials are involved. By using 3D animations, contractors can visually walk homeowners through the process, eliminating doubts and reinforcing credibility.

“As a consumer, how you show up for me is how you’re going to show up for my project,” Patrick noted. “If they’re going to invest this kind of time and energy and be this detailed in their presentation, I can probably count on them being just as detail-oriented in the installation.”

The industry’s adoption of technology like Sales Assist is a game-changer, setting forward-thinking contractors apart from competitors who still rely on outdated sales techniques. By incorporating these tools, contractors can enhance their professional image, increase customer engagement and ultimately, close more deals.
