Getting Specific About the Roofing Business with John Kenney

Cotney Roofing Business with John Kenney
March 2, 2021 at 6:00 a.m.

By Colin Sheehan, RCS Reporter.

Read, Listen or Watch this webinar to set yourself up for long-term success.

On January 27, 2021 RoofersCoffeeShop® and Cotney Consulting Group came together for an informative Read, Listen, Watch (RLW) with John Kenney, the COO and technical director for Cotney Consulting Group. John and RCS Partner, Heidi J. Ellsworth discussed John’s new book, The Blueprints to Your Business, which is chock full of information that will help contractors improve their companies. It also outlines new training programs from Cotney.

“I’m a third-generation roofer,” said John. “I take a lot of pride in starting out at a very young age and working my way up through the trade. The fact that I can touch back to my earliest memories in the '60s as a child in a family business, all the way up to where we're at today, I take great pride in that. I believe in the craftsmanship of our industry. I enjoy our industry greatly. It's been very good to me, and there's nothing more I’d like to do than give back to our industry.”

Besides recently releasing his new book, John is overseeing the Cotney Training Center which is set to launch later this year. The training center will serve as the base for the new Cotney Accreditation and Certification Programs for Estimating. In the webinar, John also talks about the importance of trainings and certifications in terms of company success, especially in the roofing and construction industries.

“Construction is its own animal in the business world. And roofing is a separate division out of that, so you've got to really learn it.”

Part of John’s inspiration for the book came from the fact that he has been in the roofing industry for so long and wanted to share what he’s learned. John’s run businesses, grown businesses and has made many mistakes along the way.

“I thought, ‘If I could just have one person read this book and say, 'Wow, I learned something from it.' If that happens, then it was a success,” said John.

Read, Listen or Watch the entire webinar to learn more about John’s new book and how to build a better business.
