Snow retention systems are a terrific way to keep a homeowner safe from the dangers of snowfall. But many property owners don’t realize they need snow guards and roofing contractors don’t know that offering them can be profitable! In a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips®, we spoke with Lars Walberg, president of Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, and Drew Greenlaw, senior project manager of Monarch Construction & Roofing, about the hidden potential of selling snow retention systems.
Synthetic and metal roofing have increased in popularity over the years. But many homeowners don’t realize snow can easily slide off these roofs, regardless of the pitch. They often don’t think they need a snow retention system, which can pose some safety risks.
“The reason people don't get them though, I think is because they don't think they need them,” Lars said. “They may not care for the appearance of them... then a year later they find out it was a problem.”
Not only can snow guards help protect homeowners from unsafe snowfall, they can also give roofing businesses a profit boost. Drew told us that offering snow retention systems helps them continue to get business during the slower months.
“It's allowed me to not only reach back out to previous customers, but it's a referral business,” Drew said. “It's helped us supplement our crews during the winter when it's a little bit slower. It keeps them fed, it keeps them happy. It keeps Monarch relevant throughout the season for potential clients, for possibly spring new re-roofs.”
