Generous Shingle Donation Gives Beacon of Hope Runner Up a New Roof

Beacon of Hope Runner Up
July 28, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

Minnesota veteran was struggling to save for a new roof because of son’s expensive medication.

Beacon Building Products launched their Beacon of Hope program as a way to give back to veterans who have served our country. They team up with veteran-friendly roofing companies to deliver and install all necessary repairs and replacements to five veterans.

Nominations were accepted, ten finalists were selected and voting was open to the public. Five veterans were chosen as winners and received full roof replacements, with the remaining five receiving $1,000. Runner up Madison B. of Woodbury, Minnesota was surprised to learn that Beacon had so many shingles donated by CertainTeed that despite not being voted as a winner, he was still able to receive a roof replacement.

Madison has served for 14 years in the Army Reserve and completed a tour in Afghanistan in 2009-2010. He serves in psychological operations in Arden Hill, Minnesota. Madison and his wife recently bought their first home and have been struggling to save for a new roof because their 5-year-old son requires expensive medication to treat his Type 1 diabetes.

Beacon teamed up with Tacheny Exteriors who donated their services in order to install the new roof for Madison and his family.

Eric Swank, Beacon COO, said, “The Beacon of Hope contest is one way we can give back to the men and women who have given so much to our country. Too many of our nation’s veterans are living under roofs in need of repair, often as a result of being on a fixed income. It is our privilege to give back to our veterans and their families.”
