Exploring metal equipment

Metalforming Exploring Metal Equipment
April 15, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

By Anna Lockhart.

The metal experts discuss leasing versus buying, tax incentives and industry trends regarding metal forming equipment.

In an episode of the Roofing Road Trips® podcast, host Heidi J. Ellsworth, along with guests Ken McLauchlan and Stephen Gosk of MetalForming, discuss the options of leasing or buying metal forming equipment.

Ken McLauchlan, vice president of architectural sales at MetalForming, and Stephen Gosk, president of MetalForming, share insights into the industry's trends and the impact of interest rates on equipment financing. They also highlight the importance of the recent METALCON event, where they showcased exciting new equipment.

Ken emphasizes the significance of tax incentives, particularly Section 179, which provides a tax deduction for businesses purchasing qualifying equipment. He stresses the benefits of understanding the various financing options available, including outright purchasing, bank loans and external financing. Depending on a contractor’s business size and needs, one of these options might be more financially reasonable than others. He explains, “It's a huge incentive for contractors that are having a great year. That's definitely something to talk to your CPA or your CFO about, to have them get involved, and then applies with any capital purchase within the parameters of 179.”

They also discuss the dynamics of the current economic environment, customer needs and the role of equipment in the roofing industry. They delve into the importance of selecting the right equipment based on the specific requirements of the business, with a focus on trim fabrication as a key starting point. The episode also addresses the importance of ongoing training, service and support once the equipment is in use.

Additionally, Stephen encourages contractors and fabricators to reach out to MetalForming for personalized consultations, equipment demonstrations and discussions about their business goals. They are a company comprised of dedicated engineers, technicians and roofing professionals who are available and ready to help customers find the best products and services to make the most out of their metal business. He shared, “We're not a sales organization, but we're an organization here to educate, and to help the customer pick the right thing, give them the opportunity."
