In a previous episode of MetalCast by MetalCoffeeShop™, host Karen Edwards explored the growing popularity and advantages of metal walls with industry experts Kiki Redhead and Brynn Wildenauer from Sherwin-Williams. The discussion highlighted the aesthetic versatility, durability and sustainability of metal walls, positioning them as a superior choice for both residential and commercial projects.
Kiki Redhead, the global head of color material finish and trend at Sherwin-Williams and Brynn Wildenauer, the architectural color designer for the coil and extrusion team, brought their extensive experience to the conversation. Brynn shared, “Our teams all over the country really focus on making sure that we're providing all the best, all the options. Really making it a huge wide variety, to the point where it is overwhelming, so that's why we have the design house and Kiki and I around, so we can kind of help make sense of it all, because there are a lot of options.”
Brynn noted a growing trend regarding the appeal of metal walls across diverse sectors of construction and design, saying, "The expanding interest in the agricultural markets is now extending into various building types because people are recognizing the advantages of metal building products."
Kiki touched on the diverse applications of metal walls in both residential and commercial settings. She explained that in residential projects, metal walls can mimic traditional siding styles like board and batten, while in commercial settings, larger flat panels or corrugated styles are more common. This flexibility allows metal walls to adapt to various design aesthetics and functional needs.
Interestingly, regional trends also influence the choice of metal wall colors and styles. Brynn noted, "In the southeast, we're seeing those terracotta warmer tones, whereas in New York City, we're going to see more of the silvers, grays, metallic tones because of the environment that they're in."
For residential homeowners, Sherwin-Williams provides curated color collections and tools to help visualize how different colors and finishes can complement their homes. Kiki stated, “Being able to put visuals to that, that contractors can actually use and have access to, really helps them sell the customer on the metal wall.”
