One of the best ways to grow your career as a roofer is by expanding your skillset and getting trained on a new type of roof system. For a variety of reasons, spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing is a growing sector of this industry. SPF roofing is economical, sustainable and durable, three qualities building owners love in a roof. It’s worth it for your career to learn how to properly install these types of roofs through high-quality training.
In a recent podcast with Will Lorenz, president of General Coatings, told us all about the many advantages of SPF roofs. He said that during these tough economic times, building owners are going to be considering a more affordable option if they need to fix their roof. SPF roofs are not only affordable, but they do not require you to tear-off your older roof underneath, which will save roofing crews time and building owners money.
But in order to start offering SPF roofs to your customers, you want to be sure you are properly trained in installing this type of roof. Will said that they have been working with the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) to promote the benefits of SPF roofing as well as highlighting the necessity of quality training.
“We're doing the right things to show that this is a responsible industry and cares about its clientele and does good work when they're properly installed,” he said. “We feel that education and training are the important things for us to do.”
The company has teamed up with RCMA to develop a three-module training for roof coatings, with the help of Dan Quinonez and Chadwick Collins, General Coatings’ executive director and technical director, respectively. In the training, contractors will learn about roofing substrates, roof coating technologies and best practices. And the best part is, it’s all virtual!
“All three modules are ready to go. You can go online, easy pay and get on board and take those courses as well as a simple test at the end to verify that you've learned things and print out a certificate,” Will said. “We think they're a great step to build your team up and educate them on what they need to know about roof coatings.”
