Empowering your workforce

RCSI - Pietsch - Empowering your workforce
December 1, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

RCS influencers Ashley and Seth Pietsch say that involving your entire team in the decision making process regarding benefits is a strategic move for roofing contractors.

As an insurance agency specializing in supporting roofing contractors, we advocate for a collaborative approach when it comes to employee benefits, encompassing both office and field staff. Engaging employees in decisions regarding their benefits goes beyond health insurance – it encompasses a range of offerings that impact their well-being and satisfaction. Here’s why involving your entire team in this process is a strategic move for roofing contractors.

  1. Diverse perspectives and needs: Employees come from various backgrounds and have different life situations. Involving them ensures a comprehensive understanding of diverse needs, allowing for tailored benefit packages that cater to a wider spectrum of requirements.
  2. Increased engagement and satisfaction: When employees are part of the decision-making process, they feel valued and respected. This involvement leads to higher engagement, job satisfaction and a sense of ownership, contributing to a more positive work environment.
  3. Improved retention and loyalty: Actively involving employees in benefit decisions enhances their commitment to the organization. This, in turn, reduces turnover rates and fosters loyalty as employees recognize the company’s investment in their wellbeing.
  4. Better decision quality and acceptance: Employees bring firsthand knowledge and experiences to the table, resulting in more informed decisions. When they have a say in benefit choices, they are more likely to embrace and utilize the offered benefits, increasing overall satisfaction.

Here are a few ways to get employees in this process:

  • Surveys and feedback sessions: Conduct surveys or organize focus groups to gather insights on employees’ benefit preferences, concerns and suggestions. Use this information to shape benefit offerings.
  • Education and workshops: Host educational sessions or workshops to inform employees about various benefit options. Encourage discussions and seek their opinions on how benefits can better meet their needs.
  • Town hall meetings or open forums: Organize town hall meetings or open forums dedicated to discussing benefit options. Encourage employees to ask questions, share insights and voice their opinions on potential benefit changes or additions.

By engaging employees in discussions regarding employee benefits, companies gain access to a wide range of perspectives within their workforce. This approach can promote a healthy workplace culture and enables the creation of benefit packages that better cater to and enhance the well-being of employees.
