Empowering contractors at the Texas Roofing Conference

RCAT Empowering Contractors
January 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) empowers contractors by offering a helping hand to navigate the wild west of the Texas roofing industry.

In Season 5, Episode 70 of Roofing Road Trips™, host Megan Ellsworth sat down with Sarah Ramon to talk about the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) and the approaching 50th anniversary of the Texas Roofing Conference. Sarah is the executive director of RCAT and spoke to the specific niche that they fill in their home state.

RCAT was founded in 1975 and Sarah explains that the organization has always been about bringing like-minded contractors together. She shared their mission by saying, “Our purpose is to collectively represent the voice of the roofing and waterproofing industry in Texas.” The organization understands that the image of the industry in Texas is based on the individual actions of each member.

This is true in every state, but especially in Texas as the roofing industry is not government regulated. Sarah explained, “There's no licensure or insurance requirements here in Texas. It literally is the wild west.” This is where RCAT steps in by providing what Sarah calls a “forum of chaos management.” Basically, they help contractors know what they can and cannot do in Texas even without state oversight. Sarah explained how RCAT does this, saying “We help our members operate successfully by providing continuing education, technical research, government relations, public relations and any other areas of concern affecting the Texas roofing industry.”

One of RCAT’s bigger events is their Texas Roofing Conference. In October 2023, they hosted their 48th annual expo in Houston, Texas. This expo brought contractors from across the state to learn from one another and boasted 22 different educational sessions, networking events and over 150 exhibitors! It is a perfect example of the work RCAT puts in to build up the industry around them and help their community reach a high standard.
