Embracing change with Mule-Hide's expert training programs

Mule-Hide Embracing change with Mule-Hide
August 1, 2024 at 3:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Learn how Mule-Hide connects contractors to the education resources they need to succeed.

As the roofing industry grows and shifts there is always a need for training to help professionals stay on top of the latest and greatest. This is something that Heidi J. Ellsworth discussed with Lane Reed and Tony Vieira of Mule-Hide Products in an episode of Roofing Road Trips®. Lane has seen his fair share of changes in the industry over the last 20 years. Similarly, Tony’s work in the industry has shown him how much methods and products can change over the years.

Recently, one of the shifts they’ve noticed in the industry is the rise of PVC membranes. Tony explained, “If you look at the volume in the PVC market sold, while certain years have seen a minor dip from the previous year, it's definitely more growth year over year.” As the interest in PVC membranes continues to rise, so does the need for PVC-focused training and education opportunities. Lane summed it up, “If you're not a contractor willing to grow and learn about new things like PVC, you can stall your own growth efforts. But with proper training and partnering up with the right manufacturer, a contractor could easily jump into this space.”

This is something that Mule-Hide is working to make more available to contractors through their training initiatives. Lane explained, “There's several training options that we provide. We currently have three formal training centers that we have roof decks in place, and it's a full formal two-day class that's in Beloit, Wisconsin; Avondale, New Jersey and Orlando, Florida.” These are typically quarterly events. But if those locations or times are not accessible for those interested in the programs, Mule-Hide also encourages contractors with facilities to invite them out to do a training. Lane shared, “We will gladly come to their facility and hold a training center right there in their conference room warehouse. We've done them. The ABC Supply folks are very gracious with their space as well and they will allow us to use their facilities too.”
