At Kelly Roofing, each training is available in English and Spanish. Each Step is signed by the employee and the trainer. All of this is tracked in our software system. Our software system also has date triggers for expired documentation, certifications and important dates like birthdays.
Our company has a standard procedure for all new employees that starts with an intro video from one person representing each division throughout the company. This provides an overview of how our company operates and the flow of a customer's journey. They then watch our new employee orientation video, which is about an hour long. It steps through each main section of our employee manual, discusses discipline actions and reward systems.
Every employee is then shown PPE and the safety harness fall arrest system, regardless of position. If a new hire is going to be a driver, an actual driving test is performed along with basic understanding of the daily checks required by every driver. Shadow training then begins. Depending on position, the training splits. Field employees are tested on field knowledge using an interview and hands-on process.
Other positions enter position training from 1 week to 3 months before actually doing the job they were hired for. Ongoing training and practice are vital to proficiency. Every employee is trained weekly on current important items including safety, policy changes and other items deemed necessary by management.
We also take advantage of the NRCA's training program, which is full of wonderful position-specific modules. Owens Corning University just launched, and we think it is an awesome LMS (Learning Management System). Our sales training is from Rodney Webb's RWU. Our insurance agent has wonderful safety training programs and even does free on-site training for us.
