In a recent Roofing Road Trips podcast, Heidi J. Ellsworth visits with Duro-Last’s Jason Dark and Steve Ruth about the launch of Duro-Last X™ (DLX), the industry's first custom-cut roll good membrane solution. They discuss how to bring Duro-Last into negotiated work as well as into the long-term of your business. Namely, they discuss the positive feedback they have received on how Duro-Last X has increased productivity, profitability and performance.
Jason Dark has worn many hats throughout his 16 years at Duro-Last. Today he is vice president of sales and an active participant in the Roofing Alliance.
Steve Ruth, the senior vice president of sales at Duro-Last, has worked with the company for 36 years.
Throughout their combined 52 years in the industry, Jason and Steve have been committed to driving the development and manufacturing of products at Duro-Last that help contractors grow their businesses by utilizing labor efficient, high-performance, long-lasting roofing systems.
“This new product line, just like all of our product lines, it saves labor, it saves on scrap, it limits the decision making on the rooftop,” Steve tells Heidi. “Our entire program is designed to make the life of a roofing contractor easier, and that's what this product line is.”
Jason adds that the driving force behind this product is the contractor's feedback and opinion. “One project in particular was 164-foot rolls from ridge to eave going down both sides. That contractor told us they were 30% more efficient,” says Jason. “It just creates this incredible efficiency.”
Core to how Duro-Last innovates and creates products is making materials that fix problems and offer solutions for roofers. This particular product line is exciting because “it's an answer to questions that contractors have been asking for years. It solves labor issues, rooftop decision-making, there's less scrap, there's less T patches. There's less of everything on that rooftop to make it easier,” says Jason.
“DLX is our approach to making roll good roofing better, faster, easier with that long-term performance we're known for and make it better for roofing contractors and buildings,” says Steve.
“We saw a need there to provide something that made it easier on the rooftop, better for roofing contractors, more profitable for roofing contractors. Something to sell that makes it easy to understand commercial roofing to that decision maker. That was the evolution of the DLX.”
