The first council meeting of 2020 for the National Women in Roofing (NWIR) Denver Chapter will be an event you won’t want to miss! February 27, 2020, join fellow roofing professionals for an evening of networking, answering questions, live music, and 2020 news. This is a FREE event, hosted at National Waterproofing LLC, Denver, Colorado from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. MST. It will be a great chance to look at becoming a member of NWIR.
NWIR started as a concept, and has since turned into a national organization. With over 1,300 members nationwide, NWIR has grown tremendously throughout the years. There are four pillars that guide the organization: mentoring, networking, education, and recruiting. Empowerment is at the heart of the organization as one of the core values. Whether it is in the boardroom or on the roof, women have a place in the roofing industry.
The night will start with 30 minutes of networking. Then, Heidi J. Ellsworth, RoofersCoffeeShop® partner, will lead a Q&A on the vital role women play in the roofing industry and why it’s crucial for more women to be a part of the industry. She will also share the importance of joining professional organizations such as NWIR, for the support, empowerment, and opportunity to connect with like minded people who share the same struggles and understand the same triumphs. The benefits to being a member in a community, such as NWIR, are endless.
Heidi has over 27 years of experience in the roofing industry. Not only is she an RCS partner, but she also owns her own company, HJE Consulting. Heidi was a founder in both NWIR and Roofing Technology Think Tank (RT3), and consults for National Roofing Contractors Association and the Roofing Alliance. “She has been a catalyst for change in the recruitment of women and diversity in the roofing industry,” shared Shari Carlozzi, NWIR Executive Committee Past Chair.
Most recently, Heidi was awarded the first ever W.O.R.L.D. Award (Women of Outstanding Roofing Leadership Distinction) at NWIR Day. This award honors a female roofing professional based on: commitment to the development of the roofing industry, perseverance against industry odds, identifying a new perspective of service/contribution to the industry, and making a difference in respective roofing niche. Heidi was one of 37 women nominated for this award.
Attendees will also get a special performance from a local, all female band, Sister Neapolitan, who will provide live music throughout the night. Ellie Herring from 303 Magazine wrote, “Sister Neapolitan combines three unique styles into one deliciously harmonizing treat for an instantly soothing listening experience.” The ice cream ladies met in the songwriting program at CU Denver and instantly bonded over their love of harmony and folk music. Sister Neapolitan is comprised of three talented young women: Megan Ellsworth, from Sisters, Oregon, Katie Smith from Tri-Cities, Washington, and Lana Margolis from Macungie, Pennsylvania.
