Cut Back on Energy Costs With Cool Coatings

Sherwin-Williams Cool Coatings Energy Costs
July 17, 2023 at 6:00 a.m.

By Anna Lockhart.

Sherwin-Williams offers a cool coil coatings system that can help cut back energy costs and protect the environment.

The Sherwin-Williams cool coatings systems are a great solution to offer home and building owners who are looking to save money on energy costs or are looking to be more environmentally friendly with their material choices. These coatings are created using solar reflective and thermal emittance pigments that work to reflect infrared radiation and absorb visible light at the same time, allowing the roof and coating to stay cool even in high heat or harsh weather.

The coatings, which come in a wide variety of color, sheen and gloss options, allow the roof and the building to stay cool while also cutting energy costs without harming the environment thanks to eco-friendly materials. The cool coatings were not only designed with environment-friendly materials in mind, but they also provide customers with the same durability and quality as other Sherwin-Williams products.

The cool coatings line consists of different formulations designed to meet the needs of a variety of customers and their environments. The line includes:

  • Fluropon® SR: A part of the Sherwin-Williams Fluropon line, this coating is a 70% PVDF resin-based coating designed to be solar reflective and highly durable in high heat. The Fluropon SR is designed to better resist heat absorption into the roof, wall or extrusion panels and helps cool the structure.
  • Flurothane® SR: This resin system is designed of thick film primer that gives the metal beneath an extra layer of protection against harsh industrial and architectural environments. While aiding in lowering energy costs, the Flurothane SR shines in resisting chemical, acid rain, salt and humidity damage.
  • WeatherXL™ and WeatherXL Crinkle Finish: This coating is designed to endure and outlast any extreme weather condition while being resistant to abrasion, chipping or marring, which are common in harsh weather environments.
