The joint winners for 2020 are Dean-Chandler Roofing Limited and Flynn Canada Ltd. (Mississauga) for their work on the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) reroofing project.
The curved roof of the iconic Rogers Centre stadium was originally installed 30 years ago and replacement was required after the roof was damaged by large chunks of ice falling from the neighboring CN Tower. Site coordination during roof replacement was critical as the building remained in use during the work. The work began at the Toronto Blue Jays stadium in the winter so that it would not impact the start of the baseball season in April. The winter weather was a major challenge as snow damaged the swing stages and made work areas impassable. As you can imagine, reroofing a domed curved area presented a daily set of challenges – not to mention supplying electrical power 800 feet up in the air. Most roofers are used to working on flat surfaces and the dome’s curvature required customized project specific swing stages to complete the work. The old roofing membrane was recycled and a new SIKA Sarnafil 80 mil white PVC roofing membrane was installed.
“As a roofing contractor, I can appreciate how difficult it was to complete this work. CRCA members are involved in some very interesting, challenging and rewarding work and for the first time we are recognizing two members who worked on the same project to ensure that the Toronto Blue Jays could play on” stated Jacques Beaulieu CRCA’s President and Chairman of the Board. This award-winning project and the roofing contractors (Dean-Chandler Roofing Limited and Flynn Canada Ltd.) will be highlighted in the 2020 Fall/Winter issue of Roofing Canada magazine.
The Roofing Canada Award recognizes a project completed by a CRCA member based on outstanding workmanship, innovation, service to the community and or service to the industry. All entries were judged by their roofing industry peers.
