The roofing industry is filled with many big hearts who give back to their communities and the industry that they love. One of the most charitable-minded individuals that I know is Trent Cotney of Cotney Construction Law and Cotney Consulting Group. I’ve experienced his generosity firsthand through his firm’s support of National Women in Roofing and the Roofing Technology Think Tank. He donates services to many of our industry associations.
This year we celebrate National Roofing Week August 23-28, and Tuesday, August 25 has been designated as Giving Day. Roofing professionals are being asked to make a donation to the Roofing Alliance’s Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program. The scholarships help “individuals seeking to further their education to pursue careers in the roofing or building construction industries.” Employees of NRCA contractor and supplier members and their families are eligible. Scholarship recipients receive funding for up to four years of full-time study at any accredited post-secondary institution of the student’s choice.
To help increase awareness about the Giving Day initiative, Cotney has donated his paid advertising space on RoofersCoffeeShop to promote the effort. They are sharing the message of celebrating the industry by giving back to support and help it be even stronger in the future. By making a contribution to the Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program, you are making a difference in the life of a student pursuing a career in construction and helping to secure the future of the industry. Donations are also tax-deductible as a charitable contribution to the extent permitted under federal tax law.
Donations are currently being accepted and the giving period will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
