At the 2019 International Roofing Expo, Cotney Construction Law dropped a game changer on the roofing industry – a subscription model for legal services. Every roofing contractor needs legal services for contract reviews, lien situations, collections, safety and OSHA defense and more. Until now it’s been a challenge to know what to expect in fees and how much you should budget for this service as a business owner. With this new subscription model, contractors choose from one of four levels of service packages and pay a set rate each month for the services included in the package.
John Kenney, Chief Operating Officer at Sutter Roofing, says that his company has worked with Trent and the Cotney Construction Law team for a long time. He’s personally had a professional relationship with Trent for 18 years. He said that his company is really happy with the new subscription model. “It makes it very easy to set your budget up, knowing you’re going to spend a set amount each month on your legal services,” explained John. “The only thing you would pay additional for is any service not outlined in your monthly plan.”
John said that one of the things they like the best about their service are the monthly personal calls that you get each month with an attorney. “There are different topics that you can choose from. It may be OSHA one month, collections the next month and HR or hiring issues the following month. It’s not just for company principals either. We’ve had our accounts receivable team, our HR team and even our field supervisors sit in on the calls.”
The customer service and responsiveness that Sutter Roofing receives have been off the charts according to John. “I have to give Trent and his entire firm an A++ on response time and customer service. I have never worked with anyone that provides that level of responsiveness and service.”
“I’ve recommended him and his firm at least a dozen or two dozen times and never had anyone come back with feedback that they weren’t happy. We have a long-term solid relationship and anyone working with him should expect that to happen. His firm makes everyone feel like they are just as important as anyone else – as if they were the only customer they have,” John said.
Whenever I speak with someone about Cotney Construction Law, they always note the firm’s involvement in the industry. They are passionate about being involved and giving back. John mentioned that Trent has been providing legal counsel to the West Coast Roofing Contractors Association (Florida) for years. He also does the same for many other industry associations.
