In this Roofing Road Trips® podcast episode, Megan Ellsworth from RoofersCoffeeShop® chats with Stuart Ruis and Jeffrey Steuben from the Cool Roofs Rating Council (CRRC) about cool roofing and what they have in store for 2024.
Stuart has been with CRRC since 2008 and is now the chair of the board. He is also the vice president of R&D Services, which is an approved test lab with the CRRC. And Jeffrey is the executive director of CRRC and has been with the organization just over 12 years having started in 2011.
The two talk about how they have been working on increasing the council's outreach and education this year. “We have a lot of new things that we've been working on and setting new goals. I would say that we've really ramped up our outreach activity just in the last few years. So that's something that we're really continuing with that trend this year,” he mentions.
Something else they’re both really excited for is their Annual Meeting, taking place June 5, 2024 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. They have a jam-packed schedule for those attending this year! CRRC staff and committees involved with the CRRC will provide updates during the morning session. “I really like how transparent and informative the CRRC is with its members. We really try to give everyone some good information to inform them what the CRRC is doing to achieve our strategic objectives and how we can all help the industry, and our respective businesses, move forward,” Stuart shared.
"We've really ramped up our outreach activity, working with AEC Daily to create a new course on cool roofs." Jeffrey also discusses CRRC's role in setting industry standards without advocating for specific regulations, aiming to educate and provide resources.
Stuart and Jeffrey both emphasize the CRRC's work behind the scenes, their participation in technical research and the council's influence on the roofing industry. Stuart is excited about the upcoming annual meeting in Las Vegas, highlighting it as a chance for updates, discussions and networking within the cool roofing community.
“I'm a technical guy and I work in a laboratory, and so it's interesting to me that all these standards that we used, a lot of them are really being pioneered by the CRRC. Behind the scenes, there's a lot of technical research that's going on and a lot of it's being driven by the CRRC,” Stuart emphasizes. “So it's been really interesting to see all that behind the scenes.”
This episode of "Roofing Road Trips" not only provides a deep dive into the CRRC's efforts in promoting cool roofing but also offers listeners an intimate look at the passion and technical dedication behind improving roofing industry standards and practices.
