Contractor insights: Nate Limerick, AllStar Construction

Contractor insights: Nate Limerick, AllStar Construction

A roof is a significant investment, so it’s important to choose one that you’ll love for years to come. Explore the options available!

You’ve got questions, so we’ve gone to the experts for answers. Each month in our Contractor Insights section we bring you five key things you’ll need answers to when it’s time to plan for your new roof. This month Nate Limerick with AllStar Construction out of Maple Plain, Minnesota, shares his professional insights with you!

Q: What are the top three things homeowners should ask a roofer about when looking for a replacement roof?
A:
To begin with, ask the contractor for their recommendation on the type of roofing materials they recommend for your home. Whether it’s asphalt, cedar, slate or synthetic, each material varies in terms of lifespan, cost and maintenance needs. Understanding these factors is crucial when making an investment in your roof.

Next, a roof is a significant investment, so it’s important to choose one that you’ll love for years to come. Explore the different styles and materials that interest you. Talk to your roofer about the pros and cons of each material.

Finally, be sure to review the warranty for the product with your roofer. A solid warranty offers long-term protection along with peace-of-mind that you’ve planned in advance for any issues that may arise down the road.

Q: Why should homeowners seriously consider composite roofing when looking for a roof?
A: Composite roofing is renowned for its exceptional durability and ability to withstand harsh conditions. Some materials are even fire-resistant. Unlike traditional asphalt shingles, which typically last 20-30 years, composite roofs can last up to 50 years, making them a smart long-term investment for homeowners.

Another major advantage is the minimal maintenance required compared to other roofing materials. Plus, composite roofs are less susceptible to storm damage and the usual wear and tear that affect other types of roofs, reducing the need for frequent repairs. While composite roofing may come with a higher upfront cost, its longevity and low maintenance factors make it more cost effective over time. This gives homeowners more bang for the buck!

Q: What are your best “homeowner survival tips” for getting through a roofing installation?
A: Expect the process to be loud and messy. Roofing involves a lot of noise from power tools and debris being tossed around. It’s a good idea to make arrangements for your pets and/or children to be out of the house during the installation.

Keep in mind that things may look worse before they get better. Your yard could be cluttered with materials and debris. But don’t worry, that’s all part of the process! And remember, let your contractor handle the heavy lifting and hard work — it’s their job to manage the mess and get your roof installed properly.

Q: If there’s storm damage involved to a roof, what tips do you have for a homeowner working with an insurance adjuster?
A: Let the contractor handle all communication with your insurance company. They have the experience with the claims process and know how to navigate it efficiently. It’s a good idea to have your contractor inspect the roof before the adjuster arrives and ideally, have them meet each other on-site. This ensures that the contractor can point out any issues directly to the adjuster.

In the meantime, avoid making any temporary repairs until the adjuster has had a chance to assess the damage, as doing so could affect the claims process.

Q: Why has your company chosen to recommend DaVinci Roofscapes composite roofing to your customers?
A: We recommend DaVinci products because they offer a perfect blend of durability, minimal maintenance, aesthetic beauty and long-lasting performance. All of this is supported by a strong warranty. It’s an excellent choice for homeowners seeking a reliable, attractive roof that will safeguard your home for many decades to come.
