Championing mental health

Elevate Championing mental health
October 24, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

A leader in roofing discusses making mental health a priority in the industry.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Kristin Beck, president of Elevate, joined Heidi J. Ellsworth to discuss the evolving role of mental health initiatives in the roofing industry. Meeting at the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) conference, the two sat down to discuss the industry’s commitment to sustainable business practices, strong relationships and, perhaps surprisingly to some, mental health.

“The fact that they had the courage to bring that up and even have a speaker on that — it really took me back and warmed the heart,” Kristin said, applauding NRCA's willingness to address mental wellness in what she described as an area “we all need to definitely be focused on moving forward.”

As a major player in commercial roofing, Elevate, under Kristin’s leadership, has long been committed to positive impacts across the industry, Kristin states “You've got to have really happy, thriving, empowered people in order to deliver that amazing experience and then have a really positive impact on our local communities and industry associations as well.” This philosophy extends to fostering a supportive culture where industry professionals can address and prioritize mental health. Kristin shared that Elevate values being the “manufacturer with the biggest heart,” representing the importance of people, relationships and supportive leadership within the company.

While much of the roofing world has focused on physical safety standards, the conversation around mental health is just beginning. Kristin's reflections mark a broader shift in the industry: an acknowledgment that roofing, while physically demanding, also brings unique psychological pressures. This fresh focus on mental health complements other industry-wide initiatives like sustainability and safety, giving contractors and business owners an additional layer of support in a challenging field.

Kristin's passion for making a difference in this often-overlooked area illustrates her commitment to cultivating a holistic workplace culture that values all aspects of well-being.
