In a recent episode of the Roofing Road Trips® podcast, hosts Megan Ellsworth and Alex Tolle sat down with Donovan Morgan, owner of Roofs by Don and The Roof Gallery, to discuss Black History Month and the special summit The Roof Gallery will be hosting on February 1, 2024.
This special Black History Month summit will give attendees and speakers the opportunity to network and celebrate diversity within the roofing industry. Donovan shared, “[The event] is to empower the community.” He explained that there wasn’t much of a spotlight when it came to black business owners or other professionals in the industry, and hosting this event is a way to celebrate those who have built careers in the roofing industry.
“When I started, I didn't really see that much representation, even that many owners. And then once I became an influencer doing social media, it was still hard to find,” Donovan shared. “So, once I finally found some people, I felt like having a conference. And the summit is able to bring everyone together, everyone to see different representation, not just as salespeople, but as owners, as on the distribution side or if they're working with manufacturers and basically just see different parts in the roofing industry.”
One of the many themes and purposes of the summit is to not only recognize black history in the roofing industry, but to build it. Donovan shared, “Having the roof gallery and being the first roof museum, I feel like that's the start of celebrating black history, having stuff to represent... So I feel like this is the beginning of showing the representation in the industry and each different department, and then from there, enhancing each other and helping each other grow.”
