In a new Roofing Road Trip episode, Heidi Ellsworth travels to Florida to visit with 2022 president of the Florida Association of Roofing Professionals (FRSA) Matt Criswell to talk about the 100-year anniversary of their annual convention. Founded in 1922, the association has been bringing together contractors as well as businesses with related interests.
The 100 celebration, taking place in Daytona Beach, FL where the first convention took place promises to be an epic 3-day event, packed with educational speaking sessions, networking events, sports tournaments, auctions and more. “it's the first time we've been back to Daytona Beach in 100 years,” says Matt. "1922 to 2022. But going back to the roots though. This one starts on Tuesday, July 19.”
Join Matt and Heidi for a conversation on the 100 years of excellence that the FRSA has delivered to the Florida roofing community and to learn more about how the association has fostered a high standard of business ethics among its members.
Matt serves as the current president-elect for the FRSA “You work your way up through secretary, treasurer, vice president, president-elect, president. The immediate past president, you're still on the executive committee, you help with decisions,” says Matt. “I honestly don't think there's a greater honor. I want to see the industry grow in the right way, and I think anyways that I'm capable of helping sort of guide that.”
FRSA has been a leading voice, not just in Florida but in the nation, on the importance of licensing, doing great work to inform the general public of only doing business with certified licensed and insured roofing professionals.
“In the end, it's what protects our business, it's what protects our industry, and it's what protects the public. You got to have rules and regulations,” says Matt. “There's some states where no license, no registration, no regulation, two men in a truck go out and put a roof on. They don't get hurricanes but the roof is probably not to the manufacturer specification or to the research and development that has gone behind the building codes for that roof.”
This has been the FRSA philosophy for the last 100 years, the success of the association is built on licensing, respect, professionalism and ethics.
